I really don't need to know about their environmental policies. I know enough with what I see. I see everyone on the street having a book tossed on their lawn in a plastic bag, including the house where no one lives. I've seen piles of these things left in the lobbies of apartment and office buildings. Obviously I couldn't say for certain without it happening, but if they switched to an opt in system they'd be out of business within a year because extraordinarily few people actually use the thing. It's been supplanted by a hundred other online lookup options AND 411 services. Plus, with the increased market penetration of smart phones, more and more people have a browser in hand with which they can look up a number.
The last time I had to use a phone book was to look up the phone number of my cable provider when the service went out. I added the number to my contact list and now I don't even need the book for that.
In addition...Not only do we receive the unwanted Yellow Book brand of wasted paper, but we get TWO of them from Verizon, one yellow and white, and one mini yellow. So this is three books that required paper to create, recycled or no, energy to print and deliver, and more energy to haul away. And no one asked for it to be sent. Let them switch to an opt in system if there book is so important.

Bully for you for advertising with them, you're helping to support a dying industry just that much longer. But frankly you're a fool for doing it. What would happen if they listed your phone number incorrectly in your ad? Rather than being able to change it quickly in the following day's newspaper, or in an online ad, instead, you have it out there for everyone to see for that entire year. So, your ad may have gone from the publisher to the recycle bin (or worse, the trash can) in thousands of homes. Maybe next time it'll work out better to just stamp your company name on a dollar and hand those out on a street corner.

Thanks for being a fan!

How much do you really know about Yellowbook's Environmental policies. I am a business owner and Yellowbook is an important part of my advertising portfolio. Regardless of what you THINK, the directory that you are referring to as litter is used by millions of people each day. You should also know that all of their directories are made of 100% recycled paper. They have also began shifting to an online focus as well with www.yellowbook.com.
